Healing
Someone once asks Socrates to be his teacher in philosophy and Socrates put him to a test. Socrates brought him to the sea and submerges his head into the water. After a while, Socrates was still pressing the guys head under the salty water. The guy begins to struggle thinking that Socrates was trying to kill him. As he emerges from the water gasping for breadth, Socrates asks
(S) “What were you thinking when I press your head in the water?”
The guy replied “I thought you are trying to kill me!”
(S) “Then you are not a good philosopher as a philosopher will only think about philosophy in any situation, even in life and death situation”
Guess not many people are able to be a true philosopher then, as the psychologist will at this point of time think of the famous “Fight or flight”, the statistician will think of his probability of survival, the investors on his stocks and shares that aren’t sold so on and so forth.
Well, at least I am not a so bad philosopher to begin with as when I was having a leg cramp during my blading, I was thinking about philosophy too! (although I do not know if I will be able to think of philosophy in a life and death situation) Having some interest in biology, I was also thinking of my lack of salt and as a businessman, I was also thinking about the business opportunity of being able to create a comfi-blade too! Ha ha since this blog is about philosophy, I shall not share the bio and biz aspect but rather focus on the philosophy I got from the leg cramp.
As mentioned, I was having leg cramp and I sat myself on a bench to recover from the pain. The pain was excruciating while it lasted and as I was trying to minimize the pain by diverting my attention to watching and listening to the waves. When the pain subsides, my philosophical fermentation presides. I found out 3 methods to heal any kind of pain, be it physical, mental or emotional.
1- Find diversions to ignore the pain and keep yourself busy
2- Do things that you like to indulge in happiness
3- Time is always the best medicine to any pain
Through this momentary pain, I found that these 3 methods are the ways that I have used to heal the leg cramp and upon reflection, I realized that these are the 3 methods that I have always applied to heal my physical, mental and emotional pain. In the short term, method 1 will ensure that you do not fall into depression by focusing on the pain, do something else to keep yourself busy to build immunity to the pain. Keeping yourself busy is however not sufficient, you need to find the things you love to do and go for those activities to keep yourself happy and positive. In the long term, time will always reign as the best healing medicine. Time can and will diminish any pain, finally immunized and healed the pain.
Time with its almighty power does not only heal pain, it also builds a positive person up to be a stronger person. It makes the positive a better person after every occurrence of pain and be more prepared for the same nature of pain. Not avoiding the same event but rather learning from it and if pain once again occur, one will be prepared to face it. Life is not a bed of roses but everyone should seek their bed of roses and should not be discouraged by any amount of momentary pain while seeking for it.

hmm...i nvr had thot tat u wld actually suggest e '3 mehtods' rule to overcome pain...thot u r e more positive kind of person..
i dun believe tat its gona help when it comes to mental/emotional pain...when it comes to physical pain e only reason tat e pain goes away is when tissue regenerate n repair itself...nt bcos of time..
when it comes to mental, even when brain tissue regenerate ur memories remain..these memory is a pain or a sweet mesmerisation depends on u...yes memory emotion might change frm time to time..but e only reason is also bcos of u..
to b diverting ur thot to other things to keep urself busy n indulge in other happiness only mean to run away frm ur problem, frm ur fear..
e best way to treat pain is to fight it head on...face ur problem n get it fixed there once n for all...diverting n keepin e problem hanging only result in ever lastin pain in e future..
when u pull ur muscle again, dude pls do some stretching & massage..holding it in stretched position..n most imptly learn ur lesson n properly warm up b4 ur next exercise...
dun run away frm ur prob again ok??
I see your point but must correct your point or else people who are reading this blog may get the wrong idea of what I am trying to say
1- Your tissue regenerate because there is time, they don’t regenerate instantly. Look at it in the philosophical sense and not the biological sense.
2- As for mental pain, the discussion is on mental torture that you go through when you are facing with decisions and dilemma. Not the brain tissues or memories.
3- As for the diversion, maybe I am not clear on this aspect. Like what you have said, I advocate confronting your problem too =). However after the problem has been solved, there will still be pain as it will still exist as a remnant of the past. We should not be impaired by this pain but rather divert our attention to doing something more meaningful and enjoyable rather than always focusing on past pains.
Hey man, but I am happy to see that you are posting this comment as you seem to be more positive le!!! Don't worry I never run away from my problem, this post is just here to share my experience on how I tackle the pain aftermath that happens after the problem has been solved. Thank you for posting the comments as other people may misunderstand my intention too!
Yapz, I shall learn my lesson and stretch before blading. Also realized the way u blade and the things you eat will also help in the non-cramp formula. Maybe we can share the tips other time dude! CHEERS!
sry dun hav time to analyse wat u said..
err...guess we r seein things differently again...focusin on diff points here..
tissue regenerate in time..no i m nt referin to biologically...i understand we need time for things to realise...but its US who make it happen...i can give u all e time u can hav but shld u sit there n do nothing...nothing wld ever b done..its nothing biological n definately not time tat make changes happen..
err..regardin e problem not equal to pain?? hmm...i think like wat u said to me..when u manage to solve e issue u hav on hand u wld b able to share wif others..i like to think ur words e other way...to b able to solve ur problem wld lead to walkin out of e issue n tat means leavin behind all e pain n sorrow..if it isnt an issue to u anymore it wld nvr b a pain to u also..(take cramp for example..to stretch ur muscle n massage them attack on e issue n e pain will go together wif it)
n i knw u gona say tat i m more positive in my thinkin..but e fact is i always think tat way..its u who felt tat i m negative..oh anyway i still think e way i thot e last time u saw me..soo..haha..
