Conclusion
1- Majong is not my game
2- Black jack is my game
3- Learn something important through these games and that is 气势
From the many “battles”, I have learnt that gambling is an art that depend very heavily on气势aka aura. A person with good aura will eventually turn the table around and a person with poor aura will start losing more and more. Some may say that there is no science to gambling, it is all about luck. Well luck definitely plays a big part but it doesn’t command the game in the long run as everyone will have their fair share of luck in the long run. Rather the determining factor is the confidence and aura you display during the game.
I realize that the games that I have lost in are results from a poor aura that I have in the game. The realization comes when I lost $150 in Dai Dee. I realized that I was paralyzed by fear when I lost a straight of 13 cards which made me lost nearly $60 plus dollars in a single hand. I started to be very careful and less adventurous soon after and started losing more and more. Dai Dee is a game that I have confidence in as in my younger days, I used to play the game pretty often with my bro and his “expert” friends. After the game, I was pretty frustrated but one important thing that I learnt finally is not to be a sore loser. Who can smile after losing $150? Well I did and told my brother-in-law that he shouldn’t feel bad from winning my money =).
After I have done that, I felt relieved and feel that I have transcend the feeling of winning or losing money. On the third day where we had another game of Dai Dee, I was able to maintain my cool. Although I was losing money initially, I remember that I have to hold my cool and think rationally. Instead of backing up from challenge in the game, I choose to maintain my aura by meeting the challenge. Loses become winnings as I felt that the other players began backing down in their challenge and start making mistake and giving way to my cards. When the game has finished, I learn the importance of maintaining your coolness when you are on losing ground, maintaining your aura in front of others and not backing in front of challenges. After learning this, I start to have my winning streaks as I applied my new found knowledge =)
Up till now, you must be thinking, hey shouldn’t this be a blog on philosophy and business ideology, when has it become a gambling technique teaching blog!?! Don’t worry, I am not intending to stray away from the core of my blog. What I have learnt in these few days is not gambling skill but rather skill on human psychology. From my games in black jack and dai dee, I realize that people make more mistake when they are very concern about winning and losing. Consequently, they began panicky and start making mistakes. Others also start to take advantage of this weakness and use their aura to press you down, making you weaker in times of challenge and your aura weaker.
In business, I felt that it is the same. Clients, associates and competitors are always looking at you and observing your every move. When times are bad for your company, they will see how you will react and gauge you based on these trying times. If you show signs of weakness, you are telling your clients that you can’t handle their business, telling your associates that you are weak and can’t bring them to higher grounds, telling your competitors that you are not up to the mark as compared to them. Consequently, signs of weakness due to poor aura will make your clients reduce their business for you, your associates start giving you lesser support and your competitors will use these opportunities to press you down and get your clients.
During bad times, one should keep his cool and maintain their dominant spirit to win. Monetary lost can crippled the vision of a person and makes him attract the negative aura. Financial handicap is only temporal but it shouldn’t handicap your aura to succeed and win. Business is about confidence, it is the confidence you hold that determines the confidence others have in you. It is the confidence you hold that back down your competitors. When trying time comes, it is a time to prove yourself, hold on to your horses and steer bravely and confidently in the storm. Everyone is watching so no sign of weakness should be shown as any sign of weakness is like a leakage that will sink your ship of success.
Always maintain the confidence to back your positive aura, when everyone sees your confidence and positive aura, the tide will eventually turn and the positive spiral will eventually start to spin to your favor!
